WHAT IS KOLONA?
dotted line faded

Kolona™ is an infrastructure enabling technology that uses mobile objects to move application logic wherever it will best meet an identified computing requirement. Mobile objects themselves are software programs that can move from machine to machine. This mobility, in conjunction with innovative, rapid design, is what enables both the functionality and the flexibility of Kolona-based solutions.

   Kolona-based products and services offer:
  • Secure and targeted information sharing, search, and transmission based on seamless integration of disparate systems
  • Extremely efficient data transfer of only the necessary information, to the right people, at the right time
  • Loosely coupled systems that integrate new technologies without interrupting service or extensive code modification
  • Flexibility, scalability, and speed

Kolona and the mobile objects that power it offer profound capabilities for users, application developers, and system architects.  A recent survey of mobile object technologies conducted for the FAA characterized Kolona as especially applicable to the abstraction of infrastructure in large-scale, highly distributed environments. Of the five commercial mobile object systems studied, Kolona was the most reliable and interoperable.
